Moving onto the next “pathfinder mission,” as CBDistillery is calling their intensive research campaign spanning various hemp products and functional targets, the newest study from the CBD industry leader will focus on the efficacy of a cannabinoid called THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) for fatigue. Here is the paraphrased version of the details CBDistllery shared with us regarding the purpose and design of the upcoming THCV study:
Qualified participants who complete the entirety of the study, which entails a total of 23 consecutive days of answering questions about the THCV product (not including the initial 7 days of questions that precede the sampling period), will receive a promo code for 40% off their next CBDistillery purchase in addition to the free THCV product they used for the trial. This will be the 4th pathfinder mission that CBDistillery has conducted as part of the #CBDMOVEMENT, a campaign dedicated to sharing data-driven insights related to the effects of various hemp products on sleep, focus, mood, and more. You can learn more about CBDistillery’s past pathfinder missions here (the anxiety study) or here (testing their CBD/CBDA synergistic tincture). If you’re interested in signing up for the THCV study, which is in the recruitment phase as of this writing, here’s the short questionnaire. More About THCVThe irony is in the heading—we sure wish we knew “more about THCV.” That’s not to say, however, that we know nothing. THCV is a naturally occurring cannabinoid native to the hemp plant, just like CBD, THC, and the 200+ others scientists have discovered. While its intoxicating status still leaves room for debate, most agree that the molecularly similar cousin of delta-9 THC is markedly less potent in its euphoric effects. In fact, it appears that tetrahydrocannabivarin acts as a “neutral antagonist at CB1,” according to this academic article from Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy in Florida, which comes with a few important implications. First, like CBD, compounds that act as antagonists at this cannabinoid receptor (CB1) have the ability to at least partially offset the intoxicating effects of CB1 agonists like delta-9 THC. Technically, delta-9 THC is a partial agonist, but the effect still holds. Again, this doesn’t mean that THCV can’t produce a euphoric effect, but it is convincingly argued in this study that it can counteract the intoxicating effects of delta-9 THC to an extent. Also of note, and seemingly contradictory to most cannabinoids, is the appetite-suppressing (yes, suppressing) action of THCV, which is among its most reliably documented effects. The same study referenced above claimed that THCV “Up-regulates energy metabolism, making it a clinically useful remedy for weight loss and management of obesity and type 2 diabetic patients.” Granted, the study on which this claim is based involved rodent subjects, but it’s certainly an area worth exploring more, given the potential for weight loss, improvements in energy, and more. To summarize, THCV is less intoxicating than delta-9 THC, but still psychoactive, and is thought to have appetite-suppressing, metabolism-boosting, and delta-9-THC-counteracting effects. And now to spin our favorite broken record yet another time: more research is needed. Hence, CBDistillery. More About CBDistilleryAs we detail in much greater depth in our review of the brand, CBDistillery has been a strong voice in the CBD industry since their founding in 2016. The subsidiary of Balanced Health Botanicals has indeed been very vocal about decrying the flood of gimmicks and CBD-related misinformation that came very soon after (pretty much during) their inception. But they don’t just snap off a pithy tweet now and again; their anti-BS movement has had legs since the beginning, materializing in the form of the #CBDMOVEMENT that they created, including a grandiose ad campaign that reached seven billboard displays in Times Square. They’ve kept this pro-consumer messaging to this day, while steadily growing their catalog of innovative hemp products. TESTSTSARDSARCancer Patients Feel Less Pain, Use Fewer Opioids After Cannabis Treatment by Frank Schuler Arguably the top place for cannabis research right now is in Canada, largely due to the fact that the nation currently has the best national cannabis laws on the planet. Canada is one of only three countries to have passed a national cannabis legalization measure, with the other two being Uruguay and Malta. The favorable laws, in turn, make barriers and hurdles to launching and completing research projects less daunting. Canada’s cannabis consumer and patient populations are considerably larger than that of Uruguay and Malta combined, and the North American country is a wealth of cannabis-focused data, including data pertaining to medical cannabis patients and use. Researchers in Canada recently conducted a study involving cancer patients who completed medical cannabis treatments. What the study participants reported after their medical cannabis treatments is insightful. Below is more information about it via a news release from NORML: Montreal, Canada: Cannabis is associated with sustained reductions in cancer pain and may be safely incorporated in cancer patients’ treatment regimens, according to data published in the journal BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care. Canadian researchers affiliated with McGill University assessed the safety and efficacy of plant-derived cannabis in 358 cancer patients. Study participants consumed cannabis as an adjunctive treatment for one year. Subjects experienced statistically significant decreases in pain within three months. Patients maintained their pain relief throughout the study. Participants who consumed cannabis flower containing nearly equal percentages of THC and CBD experienced greatest relief. Although some patients reported side-effects from cannabis, most of these episodes were categorized as “non-serious.” Patients were most likely to report experiencing sleepiness or fatigue. Investigators reported: “We found MC [medical cannabis] to be a safe and effective treatment option to help with cancer pain relief. THC/CBD balanced products appear to perform better as compared with THC-dominant and CBD-dominant products. Furthermore, we observed consistent decreases in medication burden and opioid use in our patient population. Hence, our data suggest a role for MC as a safe and complementary treatment option in patients with cancer failing to reach adequate pain relief through conventional analgesics, such as opioids.” Dozens of studies document decreases in patients’ consumption of opioids, benzodiazepines, and other prescription medications following their use of cannabis. Numerous placebo-controlled trials document the ability of either inhaled or vaporized herbal cannabis to significantly mitigate pain in various patient populations, including those suffering from HIV, diabetes, spinal cord injury, or severe treatment-resistant neuropathy (nerve pain). A 2017 review by the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine concluded that “conclusive or substantial evidence” exists for cannabis’ efficacy in patients suffering from chronic pain, stating, “Patients who [are] treated with cannabis or cannabinoids are more likely to experience a clinically significant reduction in pain symptoms.” Full text of the study, “Medical cannabis is effective for cancer-related pain: Quebec Cannabis Registry results,” appears in BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care. Earlier in May, Uganda’s Constitutional Court in Kampala rendered a decision that reportedly nullified the nation’s entire Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act. The Court reasoned that the measure was passed “without the required quorum in Parliament.” That decision set off a wave of celebration both within Uganda and beyond its borders, with many domestic and international cannabis observers touting the decision as the Court having ‘legalized cannabis.’ However, as with many cannabis-based court decisions handed down around the globe, the actual truth of the matter is not nearly as straightforward. JUDICIARY PUSHES BACK ON CLAIMS OF LEGALIZATIONThe Petitioners of the case in question, Wakiso Miraa Growers and Dealers Association Limited, argued that there was a ‘lack of quorum by Parliament’ during the initial process of passing the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act. Ultimately, Uganda’s Constitutional Court agreed with that argument. However, the Court adamantly disagreed with the assertion cannabis was legalized in the East African nation. In a press statement, the Judiciary clarified that its ruling was fairly limited in scope and that it did not intend to legalize cannabis in Uganda via its recent decision. Rather, the Court expressly indicated that its intent was to nullify the process by which ‘provisions of sections 26, 29, 47, 49, and 60 (1) (b) and (c) of the National Drug Policy and Authority Act’ was adopted, but that substances ‘previously restricted under the National Drug Policy and Authority Act remain restricted’ and that ‘Parliament still reserves the power to legislate on the same subject’ if it wants to, which it presumably will. The decision in Uganda was historic, however, not at the magnitude that many cannabis advocates had hoped, or in some cases, claimed. The fight to end cannabis prohibition in Uganda is, unfortunately, far from over. As such, cannabis advocates inside and outside of Uganda need to keep pursuing their efforts to achieve reform. Medical cannabis production is currently legal in Uganda, as are exports, however, the nation’s industry is still very limited by many measures. PREVIOUS CANNABIS DECISIONS IN OTHER COUNTRIESA cannabis-based court decision being rendered at a nation’s highest level, no pun intended, is not unique to Uganda. In September 2018, South Africa’s Constitutional Court rendered a unanimous ruling in which it deemed private, personal cannabis cultivation and consumption to be constitutional. The case stemmed from three consumers who were facing charges and argued that cannabis prohibition as it pertains to individual freedoms “intrudes unjustifiably into their private spheres.” Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo said at the time that, it will “not be a criminal offense for an adult person to use or be in possession of cannabis in private for his or her personal consumption.” The decision did not extend to anything beyond private, personal cultivation, possession, and consumption. Roughly a month after the historic decision was issued in South Africa, a somewhat similar decision was issued in Mexico. In late 2018, Mexico’s Supreme Court determined that an outright prohibition of cannabis was unconstitutional. Part of the Court’s ruling involved tasking lawmakers in Mexico with passing a legalization measure by an initial deadline. Unfortunately, the initial deadline and all subsequent extensions have yet to be complied with, as obviously, no legalization measure has reached the finish line in Mexico all of these years later. A third major decision occurred in Italy in late 2019, where the nation’s Supreme Court also deemed the prohibition of private, personal cannabis cultivation to be unconstitutional. The case stemmed from an individual facing charges for cultivating two plants. The decision in Italy was similar to the previous ones issued in South Africa and Mexico, in that the scope of the decision was somewhat limited, and much was left to lawmakers to figure out. And just as reform efforts have languished in Italy, the same is true in South Africa and Mexico. They are all examples of court cases being both contextually historic and yet ultimately limited in scope in the long run. If you have the means, try to get at least a day or two out of town, somewhere with bright blue skies and some sun. It’s a game changer. On one of my getaways, I traveled with my friend Janet to Palm Springs. Glorious. On this particular trip, we went to the local farmer’s market where I discovered golden milk. I was headed there for a date shake (see recipe below) but ended up with the spice mix that has changed my winter health and wellness routine. Golden milk is a blend of spices dissolved in your choice of milk product. I love it with oat milk, but any milk goes. Turmeric is touted for a variety of health benefits including improvement of memory, lessening inflammation and joint stiffness, and reducing the risk of cancer and heart health. Plus, it’s comforting and delicious. Regardless of where you live, hot or cold, dry or wet, this drink is the epitome of comfort. I’ve started my day with it and have sipped it during my nighttime bath. It keeps for about five days — make a bunch and drink as needed! Golden MilkOne of my favorite recipes from my book The Cannabis Apothecary, this drink was a relatively recent discovery and is now a mainstay of my cold-weather remedies. Serves 2 What You’ll Need: • 2 cups milk of your choice • 1-2 tablespoons sweetener • 3 teaspoons turmeric • 2 teaspoons infused coconut oil, 5mg. THC per tsp. • 1 teaspoon ground ginger • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon • Pinch white pepper Directions: 1. In a medium saucepan, combine the ingredients. Allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer, whisking frequently. 2. Divide the milk between two cups, and sprinkle with ginger or cinnamon. Laurie’s Date Night ShakeServes 2 • 2 teaspoons canna-oil • 8 pitted dates • 1/3 cup whole almonds • 2 cups milk of your choice • 1 small frozen banana • 1/2 cup oats • 1/2 cup almond butter • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract • 1 tablespoon maple syrup Directions: 2. Place the remaining ingredients in the blender and add the dates and almonds, making sure to scrape the oil into the blender. 3. Puree till well blended and divide between two glasses. Arthritis is the number one chronic disease in North America that results in a disability. Women are more likely to develop arthritis than men, and people of any age can be diagnosed with the condition, although it’s more common for older people to be diagnosed. The cannabis plant has been used to treat arthritis for thousands of years to some degree, and a team of researchers in Australia recently conducted a study that found that CBD was beneficial for arthritis patients. Below is more information about it via a news release from NORML: Sydney, Australia: Patients suffering from arthritis report decreased pain and improvements in their health-related quality of life following the use of cannabis products containing significant percentages of CBD, according to observational trial data published in the British Journal of Pain. Australian investigators assessed the safety and efficacy of a variety of plant-derived cannabis products in a cohort of chronic pain patients, approximately one-third of whom suffered from arthritis. (Under Australian law, physicians may only authorize medical cannabis products to patients that have been unresponsive to conventional prescription treatments). Researchers reported that pain patients were most likely to respond to products containing balanced ratios of THC and CBD. However, over half of the patients with arthritis reported “clinically meaningful improvements” following the use of products containing only CBD. “Although the CBD-only products did not reach statistical significance in the overall chronic pain cohort, participants with arthritis did report significant improvements in pain intensity and pain impact scores,” authors reported. “With arthritis being an inflammatory condition, the anti-inflammatory actions of CBD may be resulting in improved outcomes in these patients.” Patients who experienced side-effects from their use of cannabis products were most likely to report dry mouth, drowsiness, and fatigue. “In this analysis, medicinal cannabis, depending on the ratio of CBD to THC, appeared to be associated with significant improvements in pain intensity, pain interference, social functioning and pain impact scores,” investigators concluded. “Balanced and CBD-only products [were] associated with the highest HRQoL [health-related quality of life] improvements.” Survey data published last year in the Journal of Cannabis Research similarly reported that arthritis patients typically experience symptom improvements and reduce their use of prescription medications following the use of CBD. The results of a randomized clinical trial published in June in the Journal of Hand Surgery concluded that the administration of a topical formula containing hemp-derived CBD is associated with significant improvements in patients with thumb basal joint arthritis. Full text of the study, “Medical cannabis for Australian patients with chronic refractory pain including arthritis,” appears in the British Journal of Pain. Pulling a hard 180-degree turn from our Daily Balance Gummies review a few weeks ago—another PlusCBD product—these THC-loaded gummies are anything but balanced. Each gummy comes packed with five milligrams of THC, and as usual, PlusCBD sticks to high standards of sourcing, manufacturing, and testing. If you’re in need of serious potency, but without buying your product from a guy in a van, PlusCBD Reserve Extra THC Gummies are among the cleanest and most trusted high-THC hemp gummies we know of. In this review, we’ll cover everything from the label to the hemp extraction method—onward! PlusCBD Reserve Extra THC GummiesDescription:Loaded with 25 milligrams of CBD and 5 milligrams of THC each, these gummies are highly potent. They come with two milligrams of organic sugar each, and contain no artificial sweeteners, colors, or harsh preservatives. Our team never had to take more than one gummy to feel an intense sense of relaxation and relief from discomfort. Pros and ConsLet’s start with the pros:
And now the cons
QualityPlusCBD Oil has been a strong advocate for higher manufacturing and sourcing standards in the hemp industry—talk that they walk in several ways. For example, they were the first company to receive self-affirmed GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status, an FDA-ready designation that is time-consuming and costly to attain. All PlusCBD products come with QR codes linking to third-party lab reports, and their extracts are drawn from the hemp plant using CO2, the industry gold standard. PlusCBD has historically offered full-spectrum as well as THC-free products, and the hemp is sourced from Holland. Holland has very high safety and quality standards when it comes to agriculture, and PlusCBD uses non-GMO, EU-certified hemp seeds from this location. In other words, PlusCBD models industry-leading practices when it comes to every major aspect of manufacturing, sourcing, and testing. But that’s quite enough preamble—what’s up with these gummies? ConcentrationWe sampled the 30-count tub of PlusCBD Reserve Extra THC gummies, which come in Dragon Fruit flavor. According to the label, each gummy contains a 5:1 ratio of CBD to THC, at 25 milligrams and 5 milligrams of each, respectively. We cross-checked the third-party lab report, or certificate of analysis corresponding to our batch, to confirm. The results stated there were 26.74 milligrams of CBD and 5 milligrams of delta-9 THC per gummy. The CBD is over-delivered, but not problematically so, and the THC is right on the money, so we’re pleased with the results. However, the one exception is the lack of secondary cannabinoids. Of course, on raw potency, the THC is going to make up for it and then some, but if you are specifically looking for CBG, CBN, etc. to emphasize a particular benefit, you may have to look elsewhere. On a more general note, 25 milligrams of CBD and 5 milligrams of THC per gummy is a solid concentration that places these gummies somewhere in the upper third as far as hemp concentration per gummy goes. ValueThe 30-count container of PlusCBD Reserve Extra THC gummies costs $64.99 for one-time purchasers (subscribers save 25%), which reduces to a bit under $0.09 per milligram of CBD. Considering we aren’t factoring the high THC content into this price comparison, we consider this to be in the lower half of the price spectrum for premium hemp gummies. Most premium gummies with far less or zero THC content cost between $0.08-0.11 per milligram, so $0.09 per milligram with this level of THC is a decent deal. Granted, within the PlusCBD collection and outside of it, you can certainly find gummies that are closer to the $0.05 per milligram line, but it all centers on the THC content. If you aren’t looking for THC, there are better deals. If you are, this might just be a game changer for you on both value and quality fronts. PackagingSave for obvious differences on the label, the packaging is the same as PlusCBD’s Daily Balance (THC-free) gummies. Each darkly tinted container comes with a black, threaded lid with a “push down and turn” safety feature, as well as a QR code on the packaging to access the lab report. The label also shares an informational blurb on PlusCBD, warnings, and the basic specs (cannabinoid concentration, ingredients, nutrition facts, etc.). Functionally, we had no issues with the container or the lid; there was no wearing down of the lid or denting of the container throughout our use of the product. On both labeling and packaging quality, PlusCBD remains consistent with that of other premium hemp brands we’ve reviewed. IngredientsHere is the full ingredient list for PlusCBD Reserve Extra THC Gummies: Cannabidiol (CBD) 25mg, Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) 5mg, Organic Turbinado Sugar, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Purified Water, Citrus Pectin, Citric Acid, Hemp Extract (Aerial Plant Parts), Natural Flavors, Sodium Citrate, Lycopene (color), Malic Acid. Each gummy contains two grams of added sugar, which is our cutoff for a reasonable concentration (many gummies have 3-4 grams each). As you can see, there’s no high-fructose corn syrup, cheap or artificial sweeteners, preservatives, or coloring. Simply put, these are clean, not too sugary, free of GMOs, and loaded with cannabinoids—excellent ingredient quality for a gummy. FlavorAdmittedly, we aren’t dragon fruit connoisseurs, so we won’t comment too much on the authenticity of the flavor. In a general sense, however, these gummies are sweet, but not too sweet, and tasty. Given the smaller gummy and the higher hemp concentration, we didn’t expect that earthy bitterness to be covered up very well, but were pleasantly surprised in the end. It still isn’t fully concealed, but if you’re more of a sweet tooth who avoids bitter and earthy tastes, these gummies are more effective than most at covering it up. The flavor is a bit unique—like real dragon fruit—so pickier eaters may have to go elsewhere. Otherwise, both the taste and texture of these gummies were on par with other high-quality hemp gummies we’ve reviewed. EffectivenessWe went from “I think I feel relaxed” to “Dude, where’s my car?” pretty darn quick with these gummies, which is usually what happens when non-marijuana users ingest more than 2-3 milligrams of THC at once. Granted, we weren’t completely lost in the woods—there was no paranoia or confusion—but short-term memory definitely took a hit for a little while. Fortunately, discomfort and stress were also dulled down considerably, as a wave of relaxation hit at the roughly 90-minute mark, persisting for at least two hours. Having tried a lot of full-spectrum CBD gummies in our day, we’re not understating when we say these are first place when it comes to raw potency. All of the effects you expect from THC were front and center: intense relaxation, mild euphoria, and discomfort relief. If you’ve never used THC before, one gummy may put you to sleep (depending on your size and other factors), so we recommend definitely starting with just one or even half. CBD takes its fair share of ribbing from cannabis users especially, who refer to it as a kind of watery placebo that doesn’t do anything, but these gummies are anything but watery. Key TakeawaysPlusCBD Reserve Extra THC Gummies are highly potent, clean, and made under strict manufacturing and testing standards. They’re a decent value for THC + CBD gummies, but you can find the same or higher CBD concentration for less. In other words, it’s only a great deal if you’re specifically looking for higher THC. The sugar is kept to a reasonable 2 milligrams per gummy, and the taste is pleasantly sweet with a hint of bitter. Finally, as far as the CBD world is concerned, these gummies are very strong. One gummy should be enough to produce intense relaxation, discomfort relief, and a bit of euphoria. We recommend first-timers especially to not use these before doing any intensive work tasks, driving, etc. Overall, PlusCBD Reserve Extra THC gummies stick to the high standards PlusCBD has helped create, and we recommend them to everyone looking for serious potency. via The CBD Insider https://thecbdinsider.com/news/pluscbd-reserve-extra-thc-gummies-review/#utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=pluscbd-reserve-extra-thc-gummies-review TESTSTSARDSARThe Highs and Lows of New York’s Cannabis Industry Rollout by Andrew Sego Recreational cannabis is now legal in New York. Theoretically, you can go into a dispensary and buy some cannabis and smoke/eat/drink/ingest it, or even open up your own cannabis business. There’s just one problem: there’s an indefinite license freeze going on right now, so nobody knows when new licenses will be rolled out. This article will tell you everything you need to know about the status of legal cannabis in New York, explaining the current license freeze and what to expect in terms of future rollout plans. Recreational Cannabis is Legal in New YorkThe Cannabis Regulatory and Taxation Act (CRTA), which was signed into law in March 2021 by Governor Andrew Cuomo, officially legalized adult-use recreational cannabis in the state of New York. This means adults over the age of 21 can smoke cannabis just like they can smoke cigarettes. Under the CRTA, there are several different licenses that businesses can apply for to operate in the legal cannabis market. These licenses include:
It’s important to note that the application process for these licenses is currently on pause in New York as the state develops regulations and licensing procedures for cannabis businesses. However, once the application process resumes, businesses interested in operating in the legal cannabis market in New York can apply for the appropriate license based on their business activities. Huge Economic OpportunityThe New York City Comptroller recently estimated that the expanding legalization of cannabis has the potential to create a $3.1 billion market, with NYC alone seeing an additional $336 million in annual tax revenue. Beyond the revenue, legal cannabis would create thousands of jobs, from cultivators and processors to retailers and ancillary service providers. Additionally, legalization could provide a boost to related industries such as real estate and tourism. With New York’s large population and bustling economy, the potential for growth in the cannabis industry is significant, making it a promising opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors alike. Licenses are on holdIn New York, whether you’re upstate, in Manhattan or anywhere else, commercial cannabis licenses are on hold. You can still apply for a medical card, but businesses are out of luck. Here’s the deal: First wave (CUARD)The first license wave, which included only conditional adult-use retail dispensary (CAURD) licenses, ended September 2022. To qualify for a CAURD license, you or one of your family members must have BOTH:
This system was designed with the intention of providing a type of restorative justice to those who were penalized for cannabis-related offenses, now that the drug has been decriminalized. When will the next wave come?We don’t know yet. We reached out to the New York State Office of Cannabis Management for an estimated date or time frame that we can expect the applications to open back up, but they were unable to provide one. However, they were able to report that “other, non-conditional adult-use licenses will be available in the future.” Monitor www.cannabis.ny.gov/licensing for updates on when these licenses become available. There is also a mailing list there where you can sign up for email updates regarding license availability. What to do in the MeantimeWhile the application process for commercial cannabis licenses is on hold, there are several steps you can take to prime yourself and your business for the best possible entry strategy. Here’s what you should do to get ahead: Develop a business planAmbitious entrepreneurs will use this downtime between license waves to develop a comprehensive business plan, including a detailed analysis of the market, potential competitors, and strategies for securing funding and finding a suitable location for their business. This way, once licensing resumes, you’ll be ready and have all the necessary info to apply. NetworkNetworking and building relationships with key players in the industry, such as investors, potential suppliers, and local government officials is instrumental in positioning your business for success once licensing resumes. Joining industry associations like the New York Medical Cannabis Industry Association and attending events like theCannabis World Congress & Business Exposition can provide valuable opportunities to meet and connect with other industry professionals. Attend local business events, such as chamber of commerce meetings or small business networking events. You can even do it from home by participating in online forums and social media groups, where there are plenty of opportunities to connect with others in the industry and stay up to date on the latest news and trends. Stay compliant with BiotrackIt is important for cannabis businesses to stay compliant with regulatory requirements, even during the licensing pause. BioTrack is a cannabis seed-to-sale tracking and inventory management software that is currently being used in New York to track and monitor cannabis businesses’ compliance with state regulations. All cannabis businesses in New York must enroll in and use Biotrack to track all inventory. The more familiar you are with these regulations and the more prepared you are to meet the necessary requirements once licensing resumes, the quicker you’ll be able to get your doors open for business. DiversifyAs of right now, New York has a pause on all commercial licensing, but that means you have more time to explore other areas of the cannabis industry, such as cultivation, processing, or testing. These types of businesses require different types of licenses, like a cultivation license, and there’s a chance that the state will dole them out first. If you can prepare your business infrastructure ahead of time, you can take your business to new heights. Explore opportunities out of state, too. While the fact that cannabis is still illegal at the federal level makes interstate transportation difficult, it’s perfectly legal to have two separate operations in two different states. While you’re waiting for New York to release a new wave of cannabis licenses, set up shop in another state. Just keep in mind that different states have different regulations and requirements, particularly those involving track-and-trace systems. Final ThoughtsNew York, with the state’s incredible residential and tourist population, is bound to be a huge market for cannabis. In order to take advantage of it, you’ll need to do all you can to be prepared and keep your eyes peeled for the next wave of licenses.
